We are proud to be an Apple Distinguished School. Creativity is at the heart of all we do with iPad and digital education.
We believe that all of our students need to be digitally capable and know that learning to use these digital tools can enhance learning beyond what we might imagine education to be. We have been recognised as an Apple Distinguished School for our innovative implementation of Apple technology in teaching and learning. The Apple Distinguished School designation is reserved for programmes that meet criteria for innovation, leadership, and educational excellence, and demonstrate a clear vision of exemplary learning environments.
We ensure all students have equitable access to these tools, so we provide the devices and a consistent platform to ensure no child is disadvantaged.
Years 0-3 1:2 iPad allocation.
Years 4-8 1:1 devices.
We also have Apple Pencils and Sphero and Bee-Bot for coding.
Pegasus Bay was one of the first modern learning environments built in Canterbury. The flexible spaces allow for children to move furniture, create space and use the areas in ways that they couldn't in a traditional single cell room. The spaces all have Apple TVs to allow sharing of learning and connectivity with our world. The spaces have green screens to allow for photography and movie making creativity.
A learning journey for staff
The teachers here are on a learning journey too. We have completed our Apple Badges through the Apple Teacher Learning Center. We receive regular professional development from our Apple specialist teacher - Mandy Dempsey. She helps us to set goals and she runs regular workshops with us and with the children.
Teachers use Apple Classroom for sharing, management and as a monitoring tool. Teachers can see all of the children's iPads at all times. They can share activities to the children and the students are able to share their work back to the teachers. Teachers can navigate students onto websites and they have the ability to lock students iPads.
We also use Apple Classroom to enable children to share back their learning with the whole group.
