Term Dates

The New Zealand school year is divided into four terms for state and state-integrated schools.

Each year our school board sets the dates for the following school year based on information from the MOE who set the amount of days each school must be open for instruction. 

We have some flexibility around our start and finish dates and the dates for Terms 2 and 3 are fixed, and set by the Ministry of Education (MOE).  To view the MOE guidelines for each school year, click here.

2025 Term Dates

Term 4 - Monday 6 October - Wednesday 17 December at 12.45pm
(new entrant cohort entry days: Monday 6 October and Monday 10 November)

 

School closed on:

• Monday 20 October for parent and teacher interviews

• Monday 27 October for Labour Day

• Friday 14 November for Canterbury Show Day.

2026 Term Dates

TERM 1 - 9 weeks

Starts Monday 2 February and ends Thursday 2 April 

(New entrant cohort entry days -on Monday 2 February & Monday 9 March)

Public holidays:

Waitangi Day - Friday 6 February

TERM 2 - 11 weeks

Starts Monday 20 April and ends Friday 3 July

​(New entrant cohort entry days on Monday 20 April & Monday 25 May)

Public holidays:

ANZAC Day Saturday 25 April (observed Monday 27 April),

King’s Birthday Monday 1 June

Staff only day:

Monday 4 May for parent and teacher interviews

TERM 3  - 10 weeks

Starts Monday 20 July and ends Friday 25 September

(New entrant cohort entry days on Monday 20 July & Monday 24 August)

TERM 4 - 10 weeks

Starts on Monday 12 October and ends on Wednesday 16 December at 12.45pm

(New entrant cohort entry days on Monday 12 October &  Monday 16 November)

Canterbury Show Day - Friday 13 November

Staff only day:

Monday 19 October for parent and teacher interviews.
