Surfwise - Waikuku
What started as a passion many moons ago, after hours in the water sharing their love for surfing with two boys of their own, friends, local whānau and tamariki, has morphed into Surfwise!
Surfwise is run by Matt and Tammi Martin, Pegasus Bay School parents and locals at Waikuku Beach, and has a specific emphasis on using the coastal context as a transformational learning space. The ocean as the teacher and surfing as the tool.
Over recent summers, clients have enjoyed the smaller group sizes, sessions tailored to individual needs, quality feedback and positive community culture which participation in Surfwise sessions promotes.
Through the programmes Surfwise offers, clients are challenged holistically - as they refine their surfing ability. This is what makes Surfwise unique.
Tammi is a trained secondary PE, Health, OE and Art teacher who has spent over a decade lecturing in teacher education, sports coaching and professional studies at the University of Canterbury. Matt her husband is a project manager for a local building company in Waikuku, who has surfed since he was a grom and is passionate about supporting people to access the surf environment in new and exciting ways.
It's the combination of Tammi's extensive teaching and coaching background and Matt's surf forecasting and knowledge of NZ surf breaks which ensure a rich, well rounded experience for clients.
